Originally from
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, flutist Greg Milliren began musical
studies on the piano at age 6, and began playing the flute
at age 10. Now living in Los Angeles, he is currently
workingon a Masters in Music degree in flute performance at
the University of Southern California.
In demand as a performer, he has played with the American
Youth Symphony, the Southeast Symphony, the LA Jewish
Symphony, YMF Debut Orchestra, USC Thornton Ensembles, the
Definiens Project, and with numerous other local performing
groups. Nationally, he has played with the Minnesota
Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Bach
Chamber players of St. Paul, and the Las Vegas Music
Festival Orchestra.
Greg is an experienced teacher of flute. He has taught for
Schmitt Music (in Minnesota), New California Conservatory in
Buena Park, the Young Musicians Foundation, the Harmony
Project, and as a guest teacher and performer in the
Manhattan Beach Unifed School District. He also maintains an
active private studio.
Prior to moving to Los Angeles, he completed his Bachelor’s
degree in Flute Performance at the University of Minnesota
in Minneapolis. Major teachers include Jim Walker, Julia
Bogorad-Kogan, Adam Kuenzel, Immanuel Davis, Jeanni Foster,
Katie Warrichaiet, and piccolist Roma Duncan-Kansara. He has
also played in master classes for Emmanuel Pahud, Walfrid
Kujala, Keith Underwood, Tom Robertello, Mark Sparks, Trevor
Wye, and Renee Siebert.
Honors include numerous scholarships, 3rd place in the 2002
NFA Orchestral Audition & Masterclass Competition, and
selection as a finalist for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
