Timothy Hagen has been hailed by former Los Angeles
Philharmonic Principal Flutist Jim Walker as "a very
talented and driven flutist…equally at home with traditional
classical music as well as contemporary music." A staggering
balance of ambition and versatility mark his professional
activities. His musicality has been recognized with several
major awards, including the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate
Scholarship, the Leni Fé Bland Career Grant, and the
Pasadena Instrumental Competition's Jack Smith Memorial
Award for "Most Promising Talent." Hagen performs frequently
across southern California as a founding member of the Tonoi
Ensemble, as well as in various solo engagements. He has
appeared in the flute sections of orchestras across the
country, including the Winston-Salem Symphony (NC), the Long
Bay Symphony (SC), the American Youth Symphony (CA), and the
Los Angeles Jewish Symphony (CA). He was also invited to
perform as part of the 2006 Aspen Music Festival. In
addition to his classical activities, Hagen has collaborated
with some of today's leading pop artists, from Brad Paisley
to Josh Groban to Michael McDonald.
Hagen devotes a great deal of time to teaching. He is a
Teaching Artist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the
Flute Instructor at the Institute for the Arts, Music, and
Sciences in Bellflower, CA. Hagen is devoted to continuing
his own education as well. He completed his Master of Music
degree with honors at the University of Southern California
and was elected to the honor societies of Pi Kappa Lambda
and Phi Kappa Phi upon graduation. He will be in residency
at Los Angeles' Colburn School Conservatory of Music through
the 2007-2008 season as one of only thirteen people invited
to constitute the school's first class of wind musicians.
Hagen will participate in Colburn's prestigious Professional
Studies program while maintaining his active musical
schedule throughout southern California.
